July we enjoyed a superb demo by Margaret Gerrard, one of the UK's top turners.
The theme of the evening was 'Therming'
Therming is a technique used by woodturners to simultaneously create multiple copies of an item. Therming dates back to the 18th century and was used in the production of table legs and spindles.
Margaret has adopted the method to produce multiple copies of vases in various styles, both lidded and open. As you can see in the picture the blanks are mounted between two discs and each side is turned by rotating the blanks.
We were all fascinated by the demonstration, as it was so different.
Thank you Margaret for a fantastic evening.
