Westonbirt - A Great Day Out
The Festival of the Tree is held every year at Westonbirt in glorious Gloucester. I enjoyed my first trip there this year and decided to go there again as it is a tree hugger's paradise! A visit will take place to see the autumnal colours.
Wood sales take place on the second Sunday of the month — 12 September, 10 October.14 November and 12 December 2010. There were various stalls selling wood at the usual high prices but I bought some oak at a very reasonable price from a gent who was selling some really nice pieces of wood from the back of a truck. Unfortunately, his timber yard is at Cranham, near to Stroud, but if you are in the vicinity, it could be worth a look. No frills, no website — the 'phone number is 01452 863240 and 0797 900 2716.
On the woodturning side the Gloucestershire Association of Woodturners had an impressive marquee — see their plaque. A few pictures of turning are included plus a few of the other exhibitors. All in all, a good day out.
